This area is relatively little dived compared with the more well-known parts of the Devon coastline - why not try somewhere different for a change. Visibility can be as good here as anywhere along the South Devon coast and there is a huge amount to explore without the need to share it with other groups.
The diving area includes:
the southern part of Lyme bay with its numerous wrecks such as the Bretagne, Glocliffe, Sevilla and Lord Stewart.
-
Start Bay with its colourful reefs such as the Eastern Blackstone,
Bull Rock, and Mewstone, with their abundant life, and wrecks
of the Benton Castle, Greatham, Elsa and the Dutch Tug.
-
Start Point, Lannacombe Bay, Prawle Point and west to Bolt
Tail with exciting drift and reef dives, and the wrecks
of the Newholm, Riversdale, Skaala, Maine and Wreathier.
-
Tony knows of many other sites to suit all experience levels, aspirations and interests, and tide states.
-
There was interesting coverage of the potential of this area in Diver Magazine's March 2006 article on Dartmouth diving, and within the extensive coverage of wrecks and reefs in the area on the Totnes BSAC website.
